Overcoming Dyslexia
Dyslexia is a learning disability. It is not an intellectual disability. It has shown its ugly face to persons of various intellectual levels, even those considered to be ‘highly gifted’.
1 in 10 people have dyslexic tendencies. 4% are severely affected.
Children with dyslexia have difficulty with written language due to neurological problems. Things that we take for granted such as spelling and reading become a chore for these children (and adults of course).
Other difficulties that children with dyslexia may experience:
- Poor short term memory
- auditory processing disorder
- poor organizational ability
- spoken language problems
