Urge Your Member of Congress to co-sponsor the Clean Water Protection Act

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: Sierra Club

Mountaintop removal is exactly what it sounds like: Mining companies clearcut native forests and blow off mountaintops with explosives to uncover thin seams of coal, then dump millions of tons of the waste rock into the valleys below, permanently burying streams.

This devastating practice, the nation’s most destructive form of coal mining, poisons drinking water, lays waste to wildlife habitat, increases risk of flooding and wipes out entire communities.

Please urge your member of Congress to co-sponsor the Clean Water Protection Act (H.R. 2169), which would protect Appalachia’s streams by restoring the prohibition on using waste to fill streams and wetlands.

What do you get when you mix a ditty about testicular cancer with a group of citizens foraging for fruit on the streets of Los Angeles? A pretty sweet trend on YouTube. This is one of three hilarious activist videos from the YouTube Blog.

Silver Alert System Petition

This is an update to the Irwin Talkofsky case (missing person) and a plea for signatures on a petition to establish what’s called “The Silver Alert System“.

Mr Talkofsky was supposedly found dead, and if all information is correct, he was found dead even before the missing persons post was noted here.

I received a phone reply from the CEO of Alzheimers Association who informed me about what’s called “Silver Alert System”, which is the same concept as The Amber Alert System. (she was not in a legal position to provide me with any information of Mr Talkofsky’s case. It would break confidentiality laws)
